JERRY BURKS

Jerry graduated from Virginia Tech in 1966 with a Bachelor in Science in Accounting. After a couple of years working with a CPA firm he became the comptroller for the Wornom’s chain of drug stores, and then opened his own accounting firm. Jerry became an IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer in 2012. He is now mostly retired, but continues to be the nonprofit return specialist for the firm. Jerry has been active in Masonry and the Scottish Rite for more than 30 years and enjoys traveling with the local Porsche club in his spare time.
STEPHANIE BURKS-SARRIS
Chief Financial Officer
Stephanie has been with the firm since 1986 and has a BA in History from CNU. She became a tax preparer in 1988, and passed the IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer exam in 2012. Stephanie has been the Office Manager since 1998, and is the firm’s Trust and Estate tax specialist. Stephanie is a life-long resident of the Tidewater area where she volunteers with two animal rescue groups. You can contact Stephanie at this address.
JENNIFER SUNDERS
Chief Operating Officer
Jennifer has been with Burks’ Bookkeeping and Tax Service since April of 1996. Jennifer has spent most her life in Newport News and is a graduate of Denbigh High School. She earned an Associate Degree in accounting from Thomas Nelson Community College. She passed the Registered Tax Return Preparer exam with the IRS in 2012. Jennifer is the firm’s Payroll Manager, handles the payroll processing and is a member of the American Payroll Association. She also does bookkeeping and tax preparation including gift tax returns. Outside the office she has been a Girl Scout leader for 12 years and fosters kittens for the local shelter. You can contact Jennifer at this address.
JIM SARRIS
Technical & IT Services / Admin
Jim’s prior careers were as a structural engineer and a computer engineer with several construction firms in the tidewater area. He joined our firm in 2009 as a part-time administrative assistant. He began handling our IT department, computer security, and document management and security 2012. Jim is a New York native and grew up in an Air Force family, moving all around the country and to Japan during his dad’s career. Jim’s hobbies include riding his Harley Davidson, avid science fiction reading, and martial arts. You can contact Jim at this address.
